Durable Dog Beds That Will Last

Durable dog beds which will last is probably the main feature many pet parents are looking for when they purchase a dog bed.  Buying dog beds that fall apart or won’t be comfortable for your dog’s sleeping habits are major mistakes you need to avoid.  Getting the best dog bed for your dog will  be  a good   investment rather than a waste of your hard earned money.

How will you know you’re getting the best and most durable dog bed for the money?

Here are 3 tips for shopping for your dog’s bed.

1.  Get the right size  bed for your dog

A common mistake is to buy a bed that is too small.  Some pet parents think just because their dog curls up into a ball when she sleeps she will not need a bed to stretch out in.  The opposite is true.  Your dog needs a bed that she can lie in totally stretched out, without her paws danging over the sides.

The best rule for measurement is to figure out your dog’s length and then add about twelve inches.  That way you will have some of the extra space she will need even if she doesn’t always use it.  Never skimp on size.  If you’re simply not sure, always go a little larger.  That is much better than making the mistake of buying a dog bed that is too small.

2.Choose a bed based on how your dog actually sleeps.

Does your dog like to sleep curled up in a ball?  One of the nesting type pillow  dog beds might work best.  What about the dog who likes to stretch out and sleep on her stomach?  A rectangle bed would work for her sleeping needs.   A good added benefit for a rectangle bed is that they fit well underneath furniture.

3. Buy for your dog; not just what you think is cute

Let’s face it.  Buying for your pet is fun shopping.  There are tons of really cute beds, including desiger dog beds to choose from, but will your dog like what you choose?    Observing your dog is a good start.  Also, you can ask other pet parents what they recommend.  We have good reviews here on what we believe are the best dog beds, but in the end, it’s your own dog who will be the true judge.

That adorable racing car bed won’t be too special to your dog, who doesn’t care.  But comfort and security will be something your dog is very interested in since she spends a lot of her time sleeping or snoozing.

Here are some types of indestructible dog beds you and your dog might consider.

Orthopedic- these have mattresses designed to ease a dog’s arthritis, which is common in many older dogs.  You can purchase an orthopedic dog bed  with a foam mattress or box spring mattress.  Check out the heated mattresses.

Small round pillow beds.  Dogs love to cave and they want to feel secure.  A soft pillow is a bed a little dog can really sink into while giving  protection.

Cot dog beds.  These are more like actual people  beds because they’re up off the floor.  Since air can freely  travel underneath your dog bed, that can cool off the dog in hot summer.  Your dog will also not be on a cold floor in the winter.
